The final week of the EU LCS Summer Split is behind us now. Looking forward, 6 teams are entering the playoffs for their shot in this years’ Finals: No.1 & 2 H2K and Fnatic, Unicorns Of Love(UOL), Misfits, G2 Esports, and Splyce. This week’s matches on August 19th and 20th, will determine who will face our top two leaders in the semi-finals.
The first match-up in this years’ quarterfinals in between UOL and Misfits. Looking at the following season, the statistics put UOL heavily in favor of winning, and is tied for first place in Group B. Misfits performance as of late been sub-par, with 2 wins to 6 losses in the final 5 weeks of the season to finish 6W-7L and no.3 in Group A. On the other hand, UOL ended the season 9W-4L and has had solid performances lately. In week 6, UOL played Misfits and won Game 3 18-18 behind ADC UOL Samux, who went 8/1/5 as Caitlyn and accounted for a majority of his teams’ damage. Game 2 saw a similar performance out of the fierce ADC, going 6/0/9 as Xayah with a dominant Corki that lead them to win 21-17. The issue for Misfits moving into this match-up may very well be keeping UOL Samux from over-scaling and carrying the late game win. This may mean a different strategy for Misfits’ Jungler MSF Maxlore and the need to keep a closer eye on bottom lane. By the looks of it, UOL will probably be the team that moves on to the semi-finals.
The second match-up is between G2 Esports and Splyce. Both teams ended this season with a recond of 8W-5L; G2 falling in at no.2 in Group A, and Splyce at no.3 in Group B. Both teams have been doing well lately, losing only mainly to the top tier teams: UOL, H2k , and Fnatic. In their most recent match-up in week 6, G2 Esports destroyed Splyce, winning 2-0 in an dominant display. Game 1 ended in a 14-4 shutdown led by G2 Perkz & G2 Zven who went 5/0/8 and 6/1/6 respectively; in addition to dealing the majority of the teams’ damage overall. Again in Game 2, mid-laner G2 Perkz went off with LeBlanc, going 11/1/7 and help finish a 23-7 humiliation. Whatever the case here, Splyce’s mid-laner SPY Sencux needs to more properly manage the amount of deaths he offers G2 Perkz. G2 Esports is expected to win this match, but the odds are closer than the may seem despite Splyce’s bad loss in week 6. Splyce has had a number of great wins in recent weeks and shouldn’t be underestimated.
