The final week of the NA LCS Summer Split has finally arrived. Soon, we will know the top 6 contenders that will progress forward to the playoffs. Though it looks as though the current top 6 will likely move forward due to the rift in the standings, where no.7 is 3 losses behind no.6, this week is sure to be exciting with 2 of the top 3 teams set to play.
Starting with Counter Logic Gaming, this week ahead may prove yet more losses, an extension on what has been a slow descent out of their early season luster. Starting in week 6 when CLG was no.1, we witnessed CLG fall to Team Dignitas in a blowout. Then in week 7, we saw CLG fail against top 3 rival Immortals. Again in week 8 they were bested by Phoenix1 from the bottom of the standings. Now with match-ups against Team Dignitas and TSM, CLG needs to play their best to avoid dropping into the no.5 seed, which would be an astonishing turn of events for the team that was no.1 up until week 7.
With the Immortals having the easiest schedule of the top 3 teams this week, the biggest match-up this week is between CLG and TSM. Assuming CLG wins against Team Dignitas, they may be able to take TSM’s spot for the 1st place tie. Everything else within the standings seems subject to little change. Looking from the outside in, no.7 Echo Fox has no chance to get in even if they won both their games and no.6 Team Envy lost both of theirs. Assuming this happened, Team Envy would still be 8W-10L while Echo Fox would be 7W-11L, and with Echo Fox facing Immortals, even coming close to the playoffs is a slim chance for Echo Fox.
