What You Missed During 2017 Semifinals

The 2017 League of Legends semifinals from Shanghai are in the books. The Bird’s Nest was roaring as fans cheered their teams on and witnessed the most exciting action of the tournament so far. SK Telecom faced Royal Never Give Up and Samsung Galaxy squared off against Team WE. In case you missed the action, here’s what went down.

The Juggernaut Looks Vulnerable

SK Telecom pulled out the victory over Royal Never Give Up 3-2. The Chinese fans were deafening in their support, but, ultimately, SKT advances to the finals for the third straight year. RNG dominated the first game, looking totally in control the whole way. SKT responded in game two with a dominant performance in their own right from the outset.

In the third game, RNG responded with a risky draft that ended up paying off. They finished the Nexus in only 23 minutes. Game four went to SKT again as they easily pushed into RNG’s base. In the decisive game 5, both teams drafted relatively safely. SKT took the lead early and while RNG surged near the end, it wasn’t quite enough in the end. A series of close matches means SKT looks vulnerable as they face an incredibly talented contender.

Samsung Galaxy Dominates

Samsung Galaxy wins in dominating fashion, defeating Team WE 3-1 to advance to the finals for the second straight year. Team WE dominated the first game of the match with a daring draft that required near perfection to pull off. SSG responded in game two with an intelligent game that built a crushing lead in gold. In game three, SSG again completely dominated with Team WE unable to gain any advantage. SSG closed it out in the next game with another methodical performance demonstrating why they’re the right team to take on SKT in the finals.

The Rematch is Set

Last year’s Finals match between SK Telecom and Samsung Galaxy was a match for the ages, and this year’s rematch promises to deliver a memorable showdown once again. SKT has looked beatable at times in these finals, and no more so than during the semifinals as RNG looked capable of pulling off the upset. SSG looked absolutely dominant in their match and hopes to avenge the devastating loss in the finals last year.

The Finals take place at the Bird’s Nest November 3rd at 3 AM EST. This looks to be a hard fought battle, and fans are hoping it lives up to the hype.
